ASUS ZENBOOK UX305 : World's Slimmest Laptop

ASUS ZENBOOK UX305 : World's Slimmest Laptop

Asus , the Taiwanese based technology company has revealed the world's slimmest laptop. The Asus ZenBook UX305 is the latest ultra book made by the company , with a price tag of $699. An Ultrabook needs to deliver on three things: long battery life; a thin, easy-to-carry design; and enough power to handle your business and home needs. So let's see if the Zenbook UX305 delivers what it tells ?

Design:

The Asus Zenbook UX305 does not add fancy things , but keeps the design principle simple. The simplicity of the design , can be seen as it's lines and edges flow from edge to edge. The UX305 continues the ZenBook tradition by featuring a gorgeous aluminum body and a delicately thin waistline. The UX305 has black Chiclet-style keyboard and spacious one-piece touch pad.

The Asus Zenbook UX305 has dimensions  324 x 226 mm , which weighs at just 1.2kg. At 12.3mm thin, this is the world's slimmest laptop. Zenbook UX305 has a fanless design, the bottom of the UX305 is completely smooth and unbroken, except for the stereo speaker grilles on either side and four rubber feet.

Display :

The Asus Zenbook UX305 has a 13.3 inch screen with QHD+ display at a resolution of 3200 X 1800 . The UX305 comes with matte finish rather than the usual glossy finish. This results in colors that look slightly less saturated when compared to the competition, but in return, you get a bright display with almost 180-degree viewing angles and better outdoor visibility. If you spend more of your time looking at spreadsheets and Word documents than pictures or movies, the UX305's matte screen is not only more practical, but looks better, too.

In all the display is good looking , the colors look good  and the viewing angles are also great.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The Asus Zenbook UX305 has a Chiclet-style keyboard is comfortable and spacious. The keys have a standard actuation weight of 60 grams, and I wasn't bothered by the slightly shallower-than-normal key travel of 1.2 mm.The keyboard typing speed is good . It made my typing speed increased gradually . The only thing missing is a back light feature, which is major drawback.

For mousing, the UX305 features a well-sized 4.1 x 2.9-inch one-piece touch pad. Gestures such as two-finger scrolling and pinch-to-zoom were smooth and responsive, and the UX305 was never confused between left and right clicks. The touch pad is quite responsive and didn't let down a bit.
For your mousing needs, the UX305 features a well-sized 4.1 x 2.9-inch one-piece touchpad. Performance :
When looking at the first spec sheet , the 0.8Ghz processor can alarm you .But after doing multitasking , the processor just amazed us , with streaming 1080p video , opening 10 browser tabs and working with spreadsheet simultaneously. The UX305 features a low-power Intel Core M-5Y10 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB solid-state drive.

The Core-M processor has the added benefit of allowing Asus to create a completely fanless system, so even under load, interrupted by the sound of whirring blades trying to cool the system. On Geekbench 3, which evaluates overall system performance, the UX305 scored 4,623.Due to the 512 GB SSD rather than the 5400rpm HDD , the SDD obviously performs faster than the HDD . The booting and shutting down of the operating system as well as applications is comparatively too fast.

Graphics :
Equipped with integrated Intel HD 5300 graphics, the UX305 easily handled casual games such as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft at 1920 x 1080 and medium graphics, with stable frame rates and smooth animations. Unfortunately, when I played more intense games, such as StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the Asus struggled to stay above 30 fps at similar graphics settings.

On the 3DMark Fire Strike graphics benchmark, the UX305 scored 603, which is a little lower than the XPS 13's score of 704 with Intel HD 5500 graphics.
On Geekbench 3, which evaluates overall system performance, the UX305 scored 4,623. - See more at: http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/asus-zenbook-ux305#sthash.K0raRN3k.dpuf

Battery Life :
Battery Life is the key aspect that you would want from an  ultrabook. The Asus delivers this promise by it's polymer battery which last around 9 hrs 30 minutes under normal usage. However Asus claims of 10 hours of battery life and 8 hours of video playback. The battery did not disappoint at all and gave what it claimed.

VERDICT :

The Asus Zenbook UX305 is the worlds slimmest laptop till date ,but keeping it aside this is the best budget ultrabook that money can buy. With its Intel Core M CPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, the $699 ZenBook UX305 is an absolute bargain. The only downsides are the quiet speakers and the lack of a keyboard backlight.

At $699 it  stuns with a gorgeous all-aluminum body, a thin, fanless design, and 9-plus hours of battery life. If webcam and audio as well as keyboard back light is not your priority, then it's a must go.

APPLE WATCH : REVIEW

APPLE WATCH : REVIEW

Apple made it's introduction to the wearable technology with the Apple Watch . Apple made the watch in three version , a Sport version , a Standard version and a limited one also. The Apple Watch comes in two sizes 38mm and 42mm. Basically one for the lady and one for the male. However, a 38mm is too small even for ladies , so a 42mm would just be perfect. Check the versions of Apple Watch at our previous blog.

The Watch has multiple bands  to avail your licking , so you can choose which ever band you one.The Apple Watch is quite comfortable and is one of the best feeling smart-watch on the hand available in the market.Apple Watch has basically two buttons, one the crown and the other a more tactile button.Neither of them are customizable and if you tap the crown you get to the home page.

From the Apple Watch you swipe down just like the iPhone to get the notifications. The notifications are placed quite well and does not clutter. You can dismiss one notification at a time or just clear them all.And then there's swipe up from the bottom  which gives you the glance screen. It is somewhat similar to the cards , so they come from the apps from your watch. The cards can give you a whole lot of info as well as controls , you can toggle the flight mode and apps like Shazam can be used in a touch.

So coming to the apps, Apple does not have a separate Watch store for the apps, So how does the watch get the apps ? Basically it all comes from iPhone , in the iPhone store you can see the specification of the watch app provided by the developer. So you can install the app from the phone and activate the glance screen also from there. The Watch home display can  be customized with only the iPhone app , so you can there's no settings in the Watch .The apps on the watch tend to slow down , smooth but slow. The Watch developers have to get it to more faster experiences, however the inbuilt apps are great. They use the whole Watch functionality like the crown and force touch.  The Watch does quite well on receiving the notifications which in all tends to lessen time used on the iPhone. The taptic engine does quite well and create a good response.

Now the Activity tracker , coming to it this hands down the best activity app. The taptic engine gives you the notification when you are sitting to much ,or haven't meet the goal for the day.
The activity app  has three ring interface in which each ring as tells us specific activity. The inner most ring shows the time you been standing.Apple Watch pops up a message if you been sitting to long and helps you reach the goal. The middle ring is the exercise ring and shows you your workout of the day. The global time declared is 30 minutes for a good day. The last ring being the movement you have done basically the calories you have burnt through the day. So you can start by small and modify as you like, the all three rings can be modified as per the user. At the end of the week the Watch gives you the weekly report and also suggest for a better workout plan

However there's a glitch , the Apple Watch does not have a inbuilt GPS , so you cannot track the distance traveled. In fact you can use the other fitness app available to track your activity.

Apple Watch is running on an operating system called Watch OS. Developers who make iOS apps have to optimize their apps for Watch OS if they want them to work on Apple Watch.
This is similar to the way Android Wear works. The apps running on Apple Watch are either very distilled versions of the same apps on iPhone, or they’re remote controls for the full app that’s running on the phone.

So there's no option for downloading third party lock-screen, which is quite a disappointment.
But still this is Apple , and everything usually is closed. But looking at the various lock-screen's available , it does well. The Apple Watch has the best gyroscope available in any smart phone , the phone just quickly comes to life as you see it . Battery Life ! A major problem in smart-watch but Apple Watch tends to have a decent battery life , the normal usage lasts more than One and a half day.
So the battery does it job quite well.

After all this , the Apple Watch is just an accessory to the iPhone.Apple Watch is a good start by Apple in the wearable technology. Apple Watch does have great features like NFC payments, emoji , taptic engine and so on. Apple Watch still has a lot to cover , however I will wait for the version 2 .Apple Watch when compared to Android wear watches is far more developed and the OS is a major advantage for Apple Watch. What do you think ?

Rocketbook uploads to cloud , earses in microwave

ROCKETBOOK

Rocketbook is new invitation which let's you save hand written notes directly to the cloud.
Rocketbook uses the combination of both notebook and a smart phone app to do this process. You can save the notes to Dropbox , Evernote  as well as Google Drive.

Rocketbok technology is quite simple , it is a clever combination of old-school and new technology. The pages all feature a dot grid pattern that allows for  creativity and are great for writing text notes, sketches, and designs. So when you are done with the taking notes or putting your creativity on the canvas , you can simply save to  the preferred cloud by using the mobile app. The app scans the notes with it's new technology and converts it into digital images. The app will be available with the iOS as well as Android.

Coming to it's USP, is the seven icons at the bottom of each page are basically the "magic" , behind Rocketbook’s quick and easy cloud organization. You can configure each icon to the place of your choice, any folder inside Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, OneNote or your email address. When you mark that icon on your page, Rocketbook will automatically put your notes in the right folder.

So, what happens when all the 100 pages are filled ? , You don't have to erase each page but just  throw the book in the microwave . Joking Right ? No, just put Rocketbook in the microwave for 30 sec's  and  the notes get erased totally.

But there's a catch you have to use only Pilot FriXion , whichhas a tendency that it's ink vanishes when it's heated up. If you want the joy of earsing in 30 sec's you need that pens , otherwise rub and rub .

Rocketbook is a unique combination of the preferred style of writing notes and  the technology of  saving the notes to your personal storage. Rocketbook is a fresh look , it does not have the WiFi , battery or the cumbersome wires , that's what I like about Rocketbook. It creates a hassle free process. It's on demand exclusively on indiegogo and will be available after July 2015.

MICROSOFT EDGE

MICROSOFT EDGE

Distraction-free reading.

Well Microsoft finally , revealed the mystery name for the substitution of Microsoft Internet explorer , the Microsoft Edge. Originally given the name as Project Spartan , just for naming sake. The Microsoft Edge is the latest browser from  Windows which will be included as a default browser or not , is still a question, but will come with Windows 10. Why Edge ? , well we will answer that a bit later , but  for now let's see how's it different from other browser's ?

( As this is just a preview build , not all features are enabled or bought out)

CLEANER LOOK

Microsoft has cleaned all the unnecessary glitters that come with IE and made it basic with just minimalist looks. Part of that might be because it’s lacking all the final features, but it’s mainly because Microsoft is clearly thinking about stripping this back for the modern era. There’s buttons to access favorites, reading view, a new Web Notes feature, and a section for reading list, favorites management, history, and the download manager. It’s all based on a sliding sidebar, and it feels like the right way to access features and settings.

The address bar and tabs are where you’d expect to find them, and everything feels like it’s staying out of the way to let you surf the web. That feeling is very similar to how I felt using the modern browser.

INKING AND ANNOTATION

The most innovative feature of Edge is by sure inking and annotation.Microsoft demonstrated this by drawing all over a article, and from that moment it looked impressive . If you’re using something like the Surface Pro 3 with a stylus, you can simply hit the Web Note button and start inking all over a webpage. There are options to change the ink color, highlighting tools, a way to add comment notes, and even a snippet tool.

 The web is your canvas.

Once you’re done drawing all over a webpage, you can share it via email, upload it to OneDrive, or store it in OneNote. The inking will also work without a stylus on a touchscreen machine or by using a mouse. Everyone will be able to draw on the web with Windows 10. This is by far the best feature and most probably the selling point of Edge.

EDGE ENGINE

So the name comes from here, the Edge Engine developed by Microsoft is the latest engine for rendering.. Microsoft is moving away from the complexity and legacy of Internet Explorer, and it’s starting fresh with Edge . The new Edge rendering engine is designed to be modern, so there’s no support for ActiveX controls and rendered pages should be a lot more compatible.

CORTANA INTEGRATION

Cortana is the next great feature in the latest browser. While Windows 10 has Cortana built in for search, the digital assistant gets a little more clever in the browser. You can right-click on words on a website and Cortana will find search results for them, and the digital assistant will even automatically find driving directions to a store or restaurant if you’re browsing a particular site.

Find it faster.

Cortana also works in the address bar when you’re searching. If you start typing "weather," it will automatically surface local weather straight in the address bar, alongside information on stocks and many more .

READING LIST & READING VIEW

While Reading View was part of the Modern IE in Windows 8.1, Microsoft is bringing it to the desktop fully with Edge and Windows 10. It’s very similar to before, and provides a stripped-back reading experience that’s ideal on a tablet or laptop. I found that it doesn’t always work on every page, particularly large ones or ones with a lot of imagery, but it’s ideally suited for article pages, and it declutters everything to focus on the text.

Reading List is a new addition that syncs URLs between devices and provides a way to read PDFs or webpages offline. It’s not fully enabled in the preview just yet, but it will work similar to the Reading List app for Windows 8.1. I’ve found that Reading List works well if you’re browsing a site on your phone and want to transfer it quickly over to your PC.
