THE GEAR LINE
Samsung announced it's two new add-on's to it's Gear line during it's Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 2. With it's Note 4 and Note Edge , Samsung released it's extensions of the Note and Galaxy lines , the Gear S and Gear VR . The Gear S is the next smartwatch line and the all new VR headset. Now let's talk about it.
SAMSUNG GEAR S :
The Samsung Gear S is the successor to the Gear Watch and the company is really moving forward in this market.The smartwatch family of Samsung is not doing well, not only Samsung but also this category has not found a revolutionary product in this line.While Apple also entered in this market and also Moto 360 as well as LG G watch.While Apple has traditional display , the Moto and LG have round displays.But Samsung has taken another form factor , the Gear S features a 2 inch curved Super AMOLED display.Samsung has surprisingly not taken Android wear but their own Tizen software .
While Samsung has really improved on it's design section of this Gear S , they have made vast improvements in the functionality of the design as well .Now you can customize clock faces on the screen and also change the straps of the watch to fully customize the way you want it. While you had to carry your smartphone every time you have to use the watch.But Samsung has solved this issue, they have included 3G , Wifi, Bluetooth connectivity to ease the access of use.While receiving calls and view text or notifications was okay but Samsung has added a keyboard to respond as well .How in the god's name you will write on this small keyboard ??.
While Samsung shockingly didn't take Android Wear as their primary software for the Gear smartwatch but their own Tizen software.But they did a good job on it, they just enhanced the user experience and made it quite watch friendly .They just redefined every app which is commonly or mostly used by the users. Nokia Here is the official map app which provides a turn-by-turn directions for users.And all new shortcuts as well as friendly interface in their Tizen software.
Samsung has made Fitness an important aspect of the Gear S ,while launching it with the S Health App .The S health app has been really improved and having a cleaned UI for easier use.The health app now easily syncs with your Galaxy smartphone , and gives you a more precise health information.Gear S featuring more enhanced multi-sensors, built in GPS and robust S Health features. It will support and coach you while exercising and help keep you motivated.
Gear S has been IP67-certified for dust and water resistance, and includes Samsung's usual panoply of sensors: there's an accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, compass, and monitors for heart rate, UV, and ambient light. A small 300mAh battery is promised to last for two days at a time.
Samsung and Oculus have partnered for a mobile virtual reality headset calling it the Samsung Gear VR. The Gear VR is built around the same design as the Oculus VR .The Gear VR slots in the Note 4 to use as a screen, so there are no wires or extra hook-ups to worry about lugging around. Otherwise, it functions pretty much the same as its big brother, the Oculus Rift. The field of view on the Gear VR, for instance, is 96 degrees - four shy of the Rift.Which gives quite a good viewing angle and also enhances the experience.
While Google made this whole or somewhat experience with just a cardboard and some accessories .When comparing with Oculus Rift the Gear VR may be price around it somewhat , while Google did it quite cheaper.
